LeeCARES Monthly Meeting, August 17, 2019
LeeCARES met on August 17 at Elm Creek Cafe. After the business meeting, during which the new ARES goals and guidelines were explained and Lee County business was discussed, WC-ARES Safety Officer John Peek KF5ZMD gave a very thought-provoking presentation on multiple helpful topics, aimed to satisfy each Radio Ham according to his or her skills, talents, interests, and level of knowledge. Covered topics were, among the rest, difference between heat strokes and heat exhaustions, and heat index apps; the importance of the NWS Chatroom; the use and benefits of Echolink; information about websites addressing different topic or issue one might encounter relating to radios; instructions on how to make an antenna; information about ionogram and beacons; information on how to find people on HF frequencies without a radio with a waterfall. Handouts containing in depth details were distributed. Conversation and discussion of participants added to the atmosphere of learning. Thank YOU John for a great presentation and for sharing knowledge that benefitted each and everyone present!
