LecARES Monthly Meeting, August 16, 2026
The meeting started with introductions of new and existing members and updates on repeater systems in Bastrop, Elgin, and Flag Hill, including technical issues with antennas, feed lines, and linking. Members discussed Winlink setup using all-in-one cables and low-cost HTs.The group discussed plans for GMRS repeater testing, and the potential use of new tower sites for improved coverage. The group reviewed recent exercises and nets, including a simulated emergency net that stressed participants and tested backup repeaters and Winlink use. There were updates on CERT and emergency preparedness training, including a TEEX presentation and plans for a “train the trainer” event in Burleson County. The meeting included a report on the trailer and equipment inventory, with Gaye Lynn presenting an Excel-based checkout and asset tracking system. Terry explained his resignation as RACES CRO for Williamson County and emphasized the importance of perception with served agencies. Safety concerns for deploying trailers and antennas were discussed, along with compliance issues related to GMRS and FRS use. The EC introduced a scenario for the upcoming Simulated Emergency Test (SET) in the fall and possible participation with theFirst Assembly of God. The Bastrop system status was reviewed, including ongoing problems at Flag Hill and the need for maintenance and possibly new coax or antennas. The conversation ended with a motion to adjourn.
