ARES Deployment Apparel Requirements & Guidelines – Updated 10/01/2017
In an effort to make sure that people KNOW who the ARES Amateur Radio Operators are in an event or emergency, we have come up with these requirements and guidelines for apparel.
REQUIREMENTS:
- COLOR: Safety Lime Green or Florescent Green Safety Vest
- Recommended to have ARES Logo or Call Sign on front.
- Must be able to display ARES or ARRL ID while wearing vest or shirt
- Must have the words “AMATEUR RADIO COMMUNICATIONS” in 2″ BLACK BLOCK letters on the back of the safety vest.

APPRAREL UPDATE: (Nov. 15, 2020)
With ARRL no longer providing links to the ARRL ARES uniform shirts, WCARES has stepped into the gap for our members and defined the new standard for ARES uniform shirts. These are available by online order, to be safe during these COVID 19 times.
There has been a long term period of search and testing for alternatives to the ARRL version that was already in process before COVID lockdowns. This has been due to costs to members, keeping current with local served agency uniform trends, uniform appearance, and comfort. This shirt is machine washable. If you would like an undershirt for a variety of reason as many of us prefer, a Black t-shirt or Under-Armor type wicking shirt is expected. This ties into the color or our uniform pants and over all appearance.
WCARES will still honor the ARRL ARES tan polo shirts currently in possession, as we move towards this new standard. It is requested to have at least one of these on hand as soon as feasible, for consistent look across our membership.
As a point of reference, every member should have at least two shirts, and preferably two uniform pants, for when we are doing ,multi-day operations, on deployments, etc., so that uniforms will always be fresh on start of next operation cycle.”
